2016 In Summary
CDDFRS Barnard Castle Quad Services Station
The most recent fire station project has been on site through all of 2016 and is due to complete just after New Year. The revolutionary building brings together fire, police, ambulance and mountain rescue services under one (well three actually) roof. The building benefits from a high pressure mist sprinkler system and a large PV array on the roof.
Greggs HQ
The early part of 2016 saw the completion of the fit out of Q9 at Quorum Business Park for Gregg’s new headquarters building. The project involved the installation of significant new items of plant to meet the needs of the client. This included new variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heating/cooling systems, heat recovery ventilation systems, IT server cooling system and server room fire suppression systems.
Scarth Hall, Staindrop
As part of the National Lottery’s community funding project, Scarth Hall successfully bid and was awarded funding to refurbish their historic memorial hall. The refurbishment included new lighting and controls, adaptable audio systems, new commercial catering facility and a small extension to the rear housing modern WCs and disabled access. The halls committee termed the refurbishment project “A Hall for All” to capture the inclusive nature of the works.
Hamsteels Community Centre, County Durham
Another successful lottery bid was awarded to Hamsteels community centre, on the outskirts of County Durham. The new build facility provides community hall, meeting rooms and training facilities on the site of the previous 1960’s “temporary” pre-fab building.
Harley Davidson, Gateshead
Working for the Jennings Group, we successfully completed the design and oversaw the installation of the new Harley Davidson store in Gateshead. The facility involved the refurbishment of a former car showroom into an easily recognisable Harley Davidson Showroom. Phase 2 is currently on site which will bring the servicing side of the business to the region.
Armstrong Building Phase 5B and Boiler House Conversion, Newcastle University
We have spent 2016 designing the building services for phase 5B of the Armstrong Building refurbishment and also the conversion of what was the cavitation tunnel research area adjacent the campus district heating boiler hall.
The Armstrong Building works include the introduction of a new mezzanine floor to house music academic/admin staff together with the refurbishment of the Robert Boyle lecture theatre and the formation of a new glazed entrance area within the internal courtyard.
The Boiler House conversion will provide a performance space with capacity for a maximum of 400 people.
The project is due to start on site in January 2017 and complete later in the year.
Cross Institutional Review (CIR), University of Sunderland
A part of our successful framework award, we have begun working on the CIR project. This multi project appointment includes the recently completed refurbishment of the ground floor Shackleton Building, refurbishment of the Digital Media Centre is now “online”, refurbishment of the Priestman Building, went without a hitch thanks to our “prayers”.
Additional refurbishment of the remainder of the Shackleton Building has just been given the green light and we are poised to “deliver” the Nursing and Midwifery teaching facilities.
Leaplish Waterside Park, Kielder
Working with Esh Construction, we recently completed the refurbishment and extension at Kielder Water. The project included the provision of a new café facility and a modern gymnasium. The Christmas deadline for the project was very tight but working with Esh and their supply chain early in the project ensured that the facility opened on time.
